The Thornybush Nature Reserve is a 14,000-hectare private nature reserve that shares a fenceless border with the famous Kruger National Park in South Africa. Big 5 encounters are the standout experiences for our guests, with visitors particularly impressed with the lion and leopard sightings. It’s the vast diversity of wildlife, however, that has seen Thornybush emerge as a leading safari destination.

Thornybush Nature Reserve is private, ensuring our guests enjoy intimate, uncrowded encounters with the wildlife as well as extended time on sightings. The game density is exceptional and we can take you as close to the action as possible. An abundance of perennial rivers, good groundwater levels and a range of vegetation means a diversity of plains game is drawn to Thornybush, which, in turn, attracts predators. From trumpeting elephant herds along river beds, to the roar of a lion pride echoing through our camps to the thrill of a close encounter with a stealthy leopard, Thornybush is the ideal place to see the icons of the African bushveld.

Tangala can accommodate 20 guests in 4 chalets and 6 luxury tents, complete with covered patios, twin beds under mosquito nets and ensuite bathrooms which include his and her basins, shower and toilet. Tangala retains its authenticity and closeness to nature and runs “off the grid”, boasting solar power and natural gas to fuel the camp. The camp itself is rustic and authentic with an informal and relaxed atmosphere, perfect to unwind and to get back in touch with nature.

The main areas consist of an open plan interactive kitchen, boma, dining room. The lounges and decked swimming pool area overlook the active waterhole. Meals are served in either our dining room or on our deck overlooking the waterhole and between activities guests are welcome to relax by the pool sunbeds or lounge areas.

The lodge is fenced for your safety and our experienced team of rangers, trackers and hosts look forward to welcoming you and to intrepid the sights and sounds of the bush.

Curio shop A range of local and other African curios and crafts are available for purchase in our curio shop. Where possible, we source products locally to help support and develop our communities.

Swimming pool The swimming pool is situated adjacent to the bar / dining area. Sun loungers and swimming towels have been placed at the poolside for your convenience.

Inyati offers a truly authentic safari experience.

  • Game Drives Open game vehicles, which seat up to 10 guests, are driven by experienced rangers. Being in Thornybush no two game drives are ever the same.
  • Photography The ever-changing skies at dawn and dusk,and the many fascinating animals, birds and insects keep aspiring and professional photographers alike permanently captivated.

A day at Tangala Safari Camp

Game drives are planned for mornings and evenings as this is the time when the animals are most active. The game drives last for about three hours and include a coffee stop for the morning drive and a sun-downer stop in the evening.Tangala Safari Camp generally adjusts safari times accordingly to the seasons in order to maximise game-viewing opportunities and ensure that guests enjoy a comfortable experience.
