Lukimbi Safari Lodge, a five star luxury lodge situated on a 15 000 hectare private concession inside the wildlife rich southern section of the Kruger National Park
Lukimbi is one of only 7 private concessions within Kruger National Park, and at 15 000 hectares is one of the largest. It is located in the southern section of the park, and is bounded by 3 major river systems. The concession offers a diverse array of habitats, including grasslands, wooded thickets, savannahs, drainage lines, dry river beds, rolling hills and lush riverine thickets. It stands to reason that a healthy abundance of wildlife – including the Big Five and a host of other animals big and small – finds home here.
As a private concession, Lukimbi’s visitors are treated to the best of the national public reserve in a highly personalised way. No more than 32 guests at a time enjoy unlimited and exclusive sightings as vehicles are permitted to traverse off road in a highly controlled manner.
Experience a unique private safari in this vast protected reserve where the Big Five and a wide variety of other animals and birds roam free in their natural habitat.
At Lukimbi, safaris are not confined to game drives alone and you will always find good company with the animals drawn to the water of the Lwakahle River right in front of the lodge. Whether on your own private deck, at the pool, at the bar or in the dining room, you can rest assured you will have a natural spectacle in front of you every day.
The iconic and legendary Kruger Park is the largest game reserve in South Africa, nearly 2 million hectares of unrivaled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights - this is real Africa.
What makes the Kruger Park unique is that its biodiversity is unmatched, with 147 species of mammal, 492 of birds and 118 of reptiles, along with 628 types of trees, shrubs and grasses as well as thousands of insects. No other national park in the world can offer this.
Lukimbi’s 16 Suites (14 Classic Suites and 2 Premier Suites) all flank the Lwakahle River and have their own private views of the bush. Planned carefully to allow for privacy, whether you are travelling as a family, a group of friends, a couple, or on your own.
Suites are connected to the main lodge via raised wooden walkways, which lend itself to the lodge’s atmosphere of being elevated among the trees. Guests who have difficulty walking should request the units closer to the main facilities, as the more remote units are a bit of a distance away. Both Classic and Premier Suites may be converted to accommodate families.Lukimbi has one suite which has been adapted to cater for disabled guests who are wheelchair bound.

Dining at Lukimbi
To eat well is to live well… The appreciation of fine food and wine is very much part of the Lukimbi experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your stay, along with a few treats and surprises in between. Dining at Lukimbi is not just about eating and drinking, it’s also about the atmosphere. We try to vary the location of every sitting, including the dining room, the upper or lower deck, our private wine cellar, and the traditional African boma (with a twist). You will be impressed with the wine collection, with over 100 wonderful South African wines from which to choose – many of which have won awards around the world.
The Chef is remarkable at designing imaginative yet unpretentious menus, which offer a comprehensive selection of delicious meal options made from fresh, seasonal and healthy locally sourced ingredients. You can expect at least one personal visit from Chef to your table, as she loves nothing more than finding out what you really love, and then making it materialise… If you are celebrating something special let us know. From birthdays, to anniversaries, to proposals – we get a particular thrill from being part of designing surprising magical moments.
Game drives are planned for mornings and evenings as this is the time when the animals are most active. The game drives last for about three hours and include a coffee stop for the morning drive and a sun-downer stop in the evening.Lukimbi Safari Lodge generally adjusts safari times accordingly to the seasons in order to maximise game-viewing opportunities and ensure that guests enjoy a comfortable experience.
A Lukimbi safari is a unique take on a traditional Kruger National Park safari in that vehicles are permitted to traverse off-road under strictly controlled conditions. This, coupled with the fact that no more than 32 people enjoy 15 000 hectares of pristine protected wilderness, makes for an exclusive and highly personalised close contact safari experience. The importance of a good guide cannot be overstated, and Lukimbi’s guides are all qualified and experienced experts. They are teamed with local trackers who were born in this area. Together they make a formidable team, whose passion and knowledge combine to deliver a standalone safari experience. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and you’ll quickly get drawn in to their excitement over predators, the medicinal uses of plants, astronomy, spoor tracking, photography and birds – to name just a few. They will hold you riveted as they jump off a vehicle to point out paw prints in the sand, or to identify a luminous chameleon in a tree.
South Africa is blessed with a rich diversity of wilderness areas, each unique in its own right. This 15000 hectare property is special with the beauty and diversity of the landscape, the life-giving water source of the Lwakahle River and the rich abundance of wildlife. With an intricate 123km road network through the reserve, always mindful of the environment and traversed by just 6 safari vehicles at any given time this is a significant space for the enjoyment of just 32 people, and this is ultimately what makes the Lukimbi experience unique.
Being on foot in the wilderness is a very special experience
