Lukimbi Safari Lodge

Lukimbi Safari Lodge, a five star luxury lodge situated on a 15 000 hectare private concession inside the wildlife rich southern section of the Kruger National Park

Lukimbi is one of only 7 private concessions within Kruger National Park, and at 15 000 hectares is one of the largest. It is located in the southern section of the park, and is bounded by 3 major river systems. The concession offers a diverse array of habitats, including grasslands, wooded thickets, savannahs, drainage lines, dry river beds, rolling hills and lush riverine thickets. It stands to reason that a healthy abundance of wildlife – including the Big Five and a host of other animals big and small – finds home here.

As a private concession, Lukimbi’s visitors are treated to the best of the national public reserve in a highly personalised way. No more than 32 guests at a time enjoy unlimited and exclusive sightings as vehicles are permitted to traverse off road in a highly controlled manner.

Experience a unique private safari in this vast protected reserve where the Big Five and a wide variety of other animals and birds roam free in their natural habitat.

At Lukimbi, safaris are not confined to game drives alone and you will always find good company with the animals drawn to the water of the Lwakahle River right in front of the lodge. Whether on your own private deck, at the pool, at the bar or in the dining room, you can rest assured you will have a natural spectacle in front of you every day.

Kruger National Park

The iconic and legendary Kruger Park is the largest game reserve in South Africa, nearly 2 million hectares of unrivaled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights - this is real Africa.

What makes the Kruger Park unique is that its biodiversity is unmatched, with 147 species of mammal, 492 of birds and 118 of reptiles, along with 628 types of trees, shrubs and grasses as well as thousands of insects. No other national park in the world can offer this.

The Bush Walk is for those who like to get active. Walkers depart from the Lodge after breakfast and head out directly into the bush. Track animals from their ‘spoor’ left in the sand, or find tell-tale signs of their passage through marks left on trees and rocks. Learn about the medicinal value of plants, or of the geology of rock formations and characteristic landscapes.
  • Full Day Bush Walk (10 hours. Minimum 4 / Maximum 8 guests. For guests staying 3 nights or longer) Adventurous and active guests who are inclined to spend more time on foot have the option of booking a full day walking experience. A Lukimbi safari is a unique take on a traditional Kruger National Park safari in that vehicles are permitted to traverse off-road under strictly controlled conditions. This, coupled with the fact that no more than 32 people enjoy 15 000 hectares of pristine protected wilderness, makes for an exclusive and highly personalised close contact safari experience. The importance of a good guide cannot be overstated, and Lukimbi’s guides are all qualified and experienced experts. They are teamed with local trackers who were born in this area. Together they make a formidable team, whose passion and knowledge combine to deliver a standalone safari experience. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and you’ll quickly get drawn in to their excitement over predators, the medicinal uses of plants, astronomy, spoor tracking, photography and birds – to name just a few. They will hold you riveted as they jump off a vehicle to point out paw prints in the sand, or to identify a luminous chameleon in a tree.

South Africa is blessed with a rich diversity of wilderness areas, each unique in its own right. This 15000 hectare property is special with the beauty and diversity of the landscape, the life-giving water source of the Lwakahle River and the rich abundance of wildlife. With an intricate 123km road network through the reserve, always mindful of the environment and traversed by just 6 safari vehicles at any given time this is a significant space for the enjoyment of just 32 people, and this is ultimately what makes the Lukimbi experience unique.
