Cape Town’s dining scene has taken a thrilling new turn—quite literally. Introducing Bus Cuisine, an innovative, high-end dining experience that combines South Africa’s rich culinary heritage with breathtaking, ever-changing views of the iconic Atlantic Seaboard.
Launched in November 2024 by veteran hospitality and transport entrepreneurs Janse de Villiers and Jonathan Faurie, Bus Cuisine is an audacious yet seamless blend of luxury and adventure. This double-decker bus has been meticulously transformed into a mobile fine-dining establishment, offering a six-course gastronomic journey as it gracefully cruises through the city’s most scenic coastal routes
A Dining Experience Like No Other
Boarding at the Commodore Hotel at the V&A Waterfront, guests are welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The upper deck reveals an elegant, intimate dining space, where beautifully set tables and plush booth seating await. Each table is thoughtfully designed with custom glass holders to ensure stability as the bus glides through Mouille Point, Sea Point, Camps Bay, and Hout Bay. Against a constantly evolving cinematic backdrop of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and the vast Atlantic Ocean, guests indulge in a curated menu that showcases the finest local flavors.

Creating a sophisticated dining atmosphere aboard a moving vehicle was no small feat. The kitchen was custom-designed for mobile efficiency, allowing an onboard chef to prepare exquisite dishes with precision. The dining area was meticulously planned to offer both comfort and privacy, ensuring an intimate yet vibrant culinary experience.
A Gastronomic Adventure
Bus Cuisine offers two exceptional experiences: a four-course lunch (two hours) and a six-course dinner (two hours and 30 minutes). Each course is expertly paired with wines from Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, elevating the sensory journey. The dining adventure begins with a bread course featuring salmon mousse, basil pesto, and olive tapenade, perfectly complemented by Spier’s Sauvignon Blanc. Next, a rich seafood bisque is served, paired with a Seaward Chardonnay. The experience continues with line fish, followed by a palate-cleansing lemon iced fruit, matched with a Pinot Noir Rosé. For the main event, guests savor a tender braised Karoo lamb shoulder, a dish that embodies the deep, earthy flavors of the region. The evening concludes with an indulgent mixed berry cheesecake, ensuring a sweet finish to an extraordinary journey.
