This magnificent canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. Continue down the Abel Erasmus Pass into the Lowveld and a stop for lunch and time to visit a curio gallery. It is now only a thirty minute drive to the private game lodge within "Big Five Territory". After enjoying a relaxing drink on arrival, time to settle it is "safari time" we board an open game tracking vehicle to explore the African Bush looking for some of the many species that make this area home. At sunset sundowners are enjoyed in the bush, followed by a night drive using spot lights to look for the elusive nocturnal animals. We end the evening with dinner in a traditional "boma" (reed enclosure).

Day Two

A very early morning wake up call an a welcome mug of coffee with your ranger before departing on the early morning game drive. Return to the lodge for hearty breakfast, after breakfast there is time to go on a game walk with your ranger (not all lodges offer a walk) or freshen up then enjoy the lodge surroundings. Escape the midday heat by spending time in or around the swimming pool, relaxing in your room/tent or enjoy a siesta. A lunch/high tea can be enjoyed looking out over the bush and a waterhole. Meet your ranger for an afternoon tea and snacks before departing on the afternoon/evening game drive. After the sun set stop for a drink the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not jet spotted. We end the evening with dinner and drinks around a fire in a traditional "boma".

  2. The flight from Hoedspruit arrives in Johannesburg early enough to get a connecting flight to Cape Town or to meet any of the evening international flights.

There are a variety of lodges that offer excellent game viewing and accommodation, three of which we use regularly are:

Kuname River Lodge - 5 Star

Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps

Kapama Game Reserve
Kapama Private Game Reserve must surely stand out as a gem among the many reserves within our region as it continues to grow not only its product but its property as well. With the recent acquisition of 620 ha of property adjoining the Kapama Private Game Reserve.

The owners of Kapama Private Game Reserve have expanded the existing 11,200 ha Game Reserve to almost 12000 ha. This ensures Kapama has one of the lowest vehicle densities per hectare of any reserve in the entire region.

With sweeping views across a tranquil lake, Kapama Lodge (5 star graded) is the epitome of a luxury accommodation. Spacious, air-conditioned, en suite thatched chalets, decorated to reflect the rich textures of Africa, are set in tranquil indigenous gardens. The tea deck is a relaxing venue to observe an abundance of birds in their natural habitat or to enjoy cocktails on a balmy evenings, while the library and lounge offer a warm welcome on cool winter evenings.
